Tracey Gibbs

Having begun my dance career in the late 80s in Manchester, I then went on to study both in the UK with international teachers and with Zaza in Paris.

My first visit to Cairo in 1997 with Sara Farouk (my mentor) sparked an idea to recreate here in the UK the experience of a full Egyptian band. The first highly successful, and to date, the largest Middle Eastern party night was held in Manchester in November 1998 under the name ‘Taste of Cairo’.

My main passion is Egyptian style and with many trips and tuition in Egypt and ongoing tuition here in the UK, I now both teach and perform across the UK and Europe.

Over the last three years I have helped develop and deliver one of the newer and fastest growing dance festivals in Europe, Raqs Britannia.

Working alongside the London office of the Bellydance Superstars, my role has been one of researching potential teachers from all over the UK, the day to day smooth running of the festival and also the guest show.

It means a busy few months and a couple of crazy fun filled days but with my previous experience of working on the Ahalan wa Sahlan festival in Cairo the challenge has been one I have relished.

I now teach weekly two hour classes in the Manchester and I also regularly run workshops around the country. In addition, I’m one of three teachers (the others being Sara Farouk & Kay Taylor) who offer an exclusive week long dance holiday in Hydra once a year.
